KZN coastline gets a conferencing upgrade

The Radisson Blu Hotel, Umhlanga

Much excitement exists in the KZN conferencing sector over the anticipated coming of the Radisson Blu brand to the province. Currently under construction, the R700-million hotel, set to welcome its first guests in 2019, will significantly up the offering of the North Coast, says developer, Durban entrepreneur Vivian Reddy.

“The sleek, glazed façade of the hotel will offer some of the finest views in Durban and we have taken pains to ensure that every room has access to that view,” he says. “The public areas have been designed to create a new social hub for the town. High ceilings will enhance the luxury of the hotel and it will boast one of the largest banqueting halls in the city.”

On completion, the hotel will have a total of 206 rooms, state-of-the-art business facilities, conference rooms, banqueting facilities and other meeting rooms catering for up to 1,200 people.

Olive Convention Centre, Durban

Situated within Durban’s Golden Mile, the Olive Convention Centre has seen several substantial developments, says James Seymour, head of the Durban KwaZulu-Natal Convention Bureau, a special division of Tourism KZN that focuses on business events. With an array of facilities, including a 1,500-sqm multiform space that has a number of configuration options, the centre also has seven meeting rooms and four boardrooms available.

Selborne Golf Estate, Hotel and Spa, Pennington

This beautifully restored historic hotel has just completed yet another revamp allowing it to up its offering to guests. A variety of interesting conference and event facilities are available, which can be stylishly combined. The hotel can easily accommodate conferences of up to 100 delegates. The estate features a magnificent manor house, 18-hole championship golf course, wellness spa and a private beach club, as well as several restaurants.

Estuary Hotel, Port Edward

Having recently undergone a major upgrade and renovation, this South Coast hotel offers a range of conference facilities to visitors. The hotel and spa is home to three conference rooms and can accommodate anything between 100 and 150 delegates. The beautiful natural surrounds lend itself to team building and leisure activities.
