The Cape Town conference and events industry is booming. Here are some of the exciting new and upgraded conference and meeting venues in the city.
Century City Conference Centre and Hotel
Notably the biggest development for the Cape Town MICE industry in 2016 was the opening of the highly anticipated new conference centre in Century City (CCCC). With a capacity to handle 1 900 delegates across 20 venues, this state-of-the-art venue is strategically located along the N1 highway in one of Cape Town’s growing business hubs.
Technology and innovation are at the heart of this centre’s success, with more than R1bn of private investment in the development. “We do not want to follow trends,” says joint CEO, Gary Koetser, “but rather be the trend setters. We are working hard to promote business travel not only to our centre, but to the Western Cape at large.”
NASDAK, Media 24
Offering uninterrupted panoramic views of the Mother City, this new venue at the top of Media 24’s renovated office block in the bustling foreshore precinct is ideal for corporate events, conferences and sundowners. Comprising an indoor fully equipped venue, a licensed bar as well as two outdoor terraces, the facility has the capacity to host 250 delegates and can be tailored to specific requirements.
The Cape Town Ritz Hotel
Having just reopened its doors following a R110-million refurbishment, the revamped Ritz promises to be bigger and better than ever before. The 220-bedroom property offers a range of conferencing and events facilities that can easily accommodate up to 500 people in a variety of styles, while a revolving restaurant offers city, ocean and Table Mountain views. A café and a bar are also available. Only an eight-minute walk from the Sea Point promenade, the hotel is ideally situated to make the most of the variety of add-on activities in Cape Town’s city centre.
Workshop 17, The Watershed
A new and innovative concept in Cape Town, this exciting new hub is proving to be a big hit. Understanding the need of workplaces having to change to accommodate the new needs of professionals, Workshop 17 has been created to establish a space where corporates can come together and talk, collaborate, experiment and innovate. Offering a range of shared workspaces, it is also home to two seminar rooms that each have capacity for 100 people. The Café Square can accommodate around 350 people, while a second event space has capacity for a further 200. Six meeting rooms that range in size are also on offer.
NH The Lord Charles
Situated in the Winelands, the Lord Charles Hotel remains one of the premier conference venues in Cape Town and even more so following an extensive renovation. One of the largest conference centres in the Western Cape with its capacity to host up to 600 delegates, the conference facility now boasts a range of venues to suit a variety of events or meetings. Refurbished and upgraded with the latest state-of-the-art equipment, flexible room spaces can be adapted to suit specific needs and are now part and parcel of the offering.
