Slow Wine Weekends are hosted weekend wine-and-dine packages showcasing boutique wineries that produce award-winning wines and which operate either from, or around, the quaint village of McGregor in the Winelands.
These wineries have either long-established vineyards or are progressive in offering new world wines, often experimenting with different grape varietals. The historic village of McGregor has been described as the best preserved and most complete example of mid-nineteenth century townscapes in the Western Cape province. The architecture is predominantly Victorian and Georgian, rather than the Cape Dutch so typical of the province.
Central to Slow Wine Weekends are a large number of boutique wineries open exclusively by appointment. These are fabulous opportunities for guests to enjoy tutored tastings, in magnificent settings and often over excellent country cuisine with the wine maker and his or her family. Some of the weekend experiences are themed around events in cellars and vineyards and can incorporate activities such as pottery workshops with internationally renowned potters who live in the village.
To ensure a high level of interaction with vintners and their hosts, groups of guests are small and limited to a maximum of 12 guests, with the package prices dependent on the accommodation and transport options associated with the selected experience. Take a look at slowwineweekends.com
