Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide will open two hotels in Kenya in 2017 and another in Tanzania in 2018.
The Starwood brand caters for the business and corporate markets and leisure markets in southern and eastern Africa, while actively working to open the W Hotels brand in Cape Town and Sandton in the future.
Starwood is on track to open Four Points by Sheraton, close to Nairobi airport, in 2017. This hotel spearheaded Starwood’s growth in the mid-market segment in the region and had been strategically located in the airport precinct, catering for the business and corporate markets as well as travellers transiting to leisure destinations. The 194-room hotel marks Starwood’s entry into Kenya and will operate under a franchise arrangement.
The second Kenya hotel, due to open in 2017, is still under discussion but will be in downtown Nairobi and would offer between 180 and 200 rooms.
Element Oyster Bar Dar es Salaam, a 105-room hotel, will open in Tanzania in 2018. This will also be Starwood’s first hotel in Tanzania and was the first Element brand on the continent. The hotel will also operate as a franchise.
Starwood currently operates nearly 9 500 rooms in 13 countries – Algeria, Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Mauritius, Morocco, Nigeria, Seychelles, South Africa, Tunisia and Uganda – and is focusing on bringing more brands to South Africa,
