Tented Adventures: Pilanesberg Safari Camp

The experience of being authentically in the bush, with accommodation, two meals and two game drives included in an affordable fare, makes Tented Adventures a unique offering, and the reason why locals and tourists alike are falling in love with this getaway experience.

Imagine waking up surrounded by the magical views of the untamed South African bush and the sound of a canvas tent flapping gently in the fresh breeze as birds call out to welcome the day. Imagine watching impala nibbling on nature’s delights and monkeys playing tag within arms reach. Although the light is still hazy, you are eager to rise – not to leave the comfort of your bed – but to embark on a bush adventure and discover an array of wildlife in their natural settings. You head to the communal lounge and kitchen tent for hot coffee, tea and rusks before jumping onto the open game drive vehicle with your safari guide at the helm, snug under a blanket and eagerly anticipating your first sightings as the crimson sun starts to rise over the African plains.

Living in the city, we get caught up in the daily swirl of life. We yearn for solitude, tranquillity and the raw beauty only the bush can offer. We crave the escape of the modern world. The sound of cicadas in the daily heat and bats at dusk, wonders only Africa can offer. The wind gently brushes the leaves of wild thorn trees, while wood crackles on an open campfire. The smells, nostalgia, harmony and connection lead to a sense of wellbeing. Living in South Africa with our country’s many beautiful destinations, we look to bush and safari getaways that offer excitement, perspective and wildlife at its best.

Tented Adventures: Kruger Park Pretoriuskop Rest Camp

Most travellers look for the simple, genuine bush experience, but still desire basic necessities and the creature comforts. Currently, Tented Adventures has two flagship properties and future launches include a Panoramo route property and a new Kruger Park offering. Pilanesberg Safari Camp and Kruger Park Pretoriuskop Rest Camp both boast beautiful scenery and are perfectly located within their respective campgrounds. The malaria-free Pilanesberg location is ideal for a quick bush getaway to see the Big Five, only two hours outside of JHB, while an easy five-hour drive will get you to Kruger, one of South Africa’s most prized and sought after destinations. Shuttles to both locations are available and guests can self-drive or fly with Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport located 35 kilometres away.

Each campsite only has around 10 tents, making it unique and allowing a comfortable, intimate and personalised experience. The glamping experience offered by Tented Adventures comprises snug twin beds or large queen bed accommodation in sturdy canvas tent structures. Beds are covered in all the trimmings and accompanied by bedside trays, lamps, electric plug points and shelves for easy storage. Electric blankets allow for a homely winter experience, while fans in the tents and netted windows and doors let in cool summer breezes. A little stoep (patio) outside each tent encourages intimate chats with family and friends, early morning coffees or those late afternoon sundowners. Ablutions are close to the site and house all the necessities.

Tented Adventures: Pilanesberg Safari Camp

Guests will enjoy an evening campfire braai catering for all dietary requirements, as well as full breakfast the next morning. The on-site camp host prepares both meals and guests have the added benefit of staff to make all visitors feel part of the family. The communal lounge offers a relaxation area and the kitchen comes with fridges and a microwave, and a kettle always on the boil with complimentary tea and coffee. Both Tented Adventures sites are housed within greater campsites that offer swimming pools, play areas, restaurants and bars.

Included in the stay are the dawn and dusk open vehicle game drives with the knowledgeable safari guides and in-between hours can be spent relaxing, sleeping, enjoying the surroundings and generally indulging in the bush senses. The glamping experience is great for the inexperienced camper; you don’t have to pitch your own tent, rough a rainy night or suffer backache from sleeping on the hard ground.
